Ministerial Meeting in Rabat with Agreement on Future Cooperation Fields

Ministerial thematic refocusing and high-level talks with industry players at the occasion of German Minister Gabriel´s visit to Rabat

During the ministerial meeting between former German Minister of Economy and Energy Gabriel and Moroccan Minister of Energy, Mines, Water and Environment Abdelkader Amara, a new declaration of intent concerning the future of the Energy Partnership was signed. Both parties agreed to “work together to ensure a sustainable energy future, essentially renewable, by 2050” and to focus their cooperation on the development of new electricity sources, in particular renewable energy sources, power grid interconnection and grid extension, grid stability and integration of electricity markets, involvement of economic players, and energy efficiency enhancement. This meeting kicked off the work which aims at defining long terms energy prospects for Morocco on the basis of electricity and energy scenarios and planned activities for COP 22 to be held in Marrakesh.

At this occasion a roundtable on investment possibilities in the Moroccan energy sector was also organized. Former Minister Gabriel was accompanied by a delegation of industrial actors who were given the opportunity to debate with key Moroccan players of the energy sector, both public and private.  Almost 300 participants attended the event, which included high level presentations from ONEE, Siemens-Nareva, Fraunhofer-IRESEN.
